360SEE_ED_4_23_10_NewShoes(NOT SO) NEW SHOES Exhibition at 360SEE [CURATOR, CREATIVE DIRECTOR]

The every day goal of 360SEE Gallery was to champion fine art, furniture, and design objects — equally weighing the works’ modern aesthetic and sustainable-minded conceptual or media element. However, for Earth Day, the gallery would double down on its message of sustainability.

For the final Earth Day Exhibition at the 360SEE retail location, (Not So) New Shoes, Sculptures by Gabriel Dishaw,  I was looking to expand the exposure for the Earth Day Exhibition beyond the walls of the gallery.

The exhibition, featured a new series of Dishaw sculptures consisting of (7) pairs of Nike-inspired sneakers made completely out of recycled computer parts, electronics, and other up-cycled materials. Dishaw also designed limited edition wearable  Nike Air Force Ones that he customized featuring recycled electronic elements from his sculptures.

I explored partnerships on a number of fronts, ultimately transforming (Not So) New Shoes, sculptures by Gabriel Dishaw from a gallery exhibition into a multi-partner Earth Day + art + fashion experience.

NotSoNewShoes_SneakerPreviewPARTNER 1: ST ALFRED
Due to the sneakerhead appeal of Dishaw’s work, I approached the renown streetwear and footwear gallery, Saint Alfred

After meeting with Saint Alfred management and creative staff we designed a preview event  in which all of the sculptures from the upcoming gallery show would be displayed like sneakers for sale at Saint Alfred. Partnering with a high-end sneaker boutique exposed 360SEE to a new, qualified, and enthusiastic client base.

The partnership continued beyond the preview with the Dishaw designed wearable Air Force Ones available exclusively at Saint Alfred for a week ahead of the 360SEE show opening.

Earlier in the year 360SEE was contacted by Earth Day Network and I was honored as an Earth Day Network Art Ambassador as part of their Arts for the Earth 40th Anniversary Initiative.

After contacting Earth Day Network’s PR team and sharing our plans for 360SEE’s Earth Day Exhibition, the event was named an Official Earth Day Event and promoted alongside the organization’s other national events.

All proceeds from the sale of Dishaw’s wearable custom Air Force One sneakers were donated to Earth Day Network.

For the length of the (Not So) New Shoes exhibition 360SEE served as a depository for old laptops, personal computers, typewriters, and other electronic components that were collected for Gabriel Dishaw to use in future sculptures. All materials deposited that were not useable by Dishaw were properly recycled to keep as many harmful and toxic materials out of our landfills.

The three partnerships resulted in a nearly sold out exhibition, increased gallery exposure and brand recognition, and the responsible salvage of countless computers and electronics for use in future artwork.
